Vacdirect (NZ) Ltd, trading as Vacdirect (“we”, “us” and “our”), respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and share your personal information when you visit our website, buy from us, book a repair or visit one of our stores. We handle your information in line with the Privacy Act 2020.
All of our stores are operated by Vacdirect (NZ) Ltd, so this one policy applies everywhere you deal with us.
1. Information We Collect
Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:
- Contact details: your name, email address, phone number, and billing and delivery addresses.
- Order details: what you’ve bought, when, and how you paid.
- Payment information: we don’t store your full card details. Payments are processed by secure third-party payment providers.
- Repair and service details: the make and model of your machine, and a description of the fault.
- Account details: your login details, if you create an account.
- Mower finder details: your answers in our mower finder (such as your lawn size and slope), and the details you send us through its form: your name, email address, phone number, postcode, preferred way to be contacted, and any message.
- Communications: emails, calls, messages and enquiries you send us.
- Website data: your IP address, browser type, device, pages viewed, and how you reached our site, including whether you came from one of our listings or ads on Google.
- Store security footage: some of our stores use cameras for security. These record images in the store.
2. How We Collect It
We collect information directly from you, for example when you place an order, create an account, book a repair, contact us or sign up to our emails. We also collect some information automatically through cookies and similar tools when you use our website.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To process and deliver your orders, and to take payment.
- To book, carry out and follow up repairs and servicing.
- To handle warranty claims and faulty goods, and to give you support.
- To communicate with you about your orders, enquiries and repairs.
- To send you news and offers, where you’ve agreed to receive them.
- To improve our website, products and services.
- To prevent fraud and keep our website and stores secure.
- To meet our legal and tax obligations.
If you use our mower finder and send us your details, we use them to follow up your enquiry and may email you a copy of your results. A store may contact you by phone or email, including to arrange a free demo or installation where we offer these near you.
4. Who We Share Your Information With
We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only where we need to, with:
- couriers and delivery partners, so they can deliver your order
- payment providers, so they can process your payment
- manufacturers and suppliers, where needed for a warranty claim or repair
- website, email and IT service providers who help us run our business
- Google, which shows our products on Google Shopping and tells us which visits from Google lead to a sale (see section 6)
- professional advisers, such as our accountants and lawyers
- government agencies or other parties, where the law requires or allows it
We ask these providers to look after your information and to use it only for the services they provide to us.
5. Storing Information Overseas
Some of our service providers, such as website hosting, email and analytics providers, may store or process information outside New Zealand. Those countries may have different privacy laws. We send your information overseas only where the Privacy Act allows, and we take reasonable steps to make sure it is protected.
6. Cookies
We use cookies and similar tools to make our website work, remember what’s in your cart, and understand how people use our site. Some are set by third parties, such as analytics providers. You can change your browser settings to block or delete cookies. If you do, some parts of our website may not work properly.
Google Shopping and Google Ads
We list our products on Google Shopping using the Google for WooCommerce extension. This adds Google’s website tag to our pages. The tag uses cookies to tell us whether you reached our site from one of our Google listings or ads, and whether you then bought something.
When you use our website, the tag sends Google technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view and, if you order, the order number, products and order value. We have not turned on Google’s “enhanced conversions” feature, so your name, email address and phone number are not sent to Google through the tag. Google is based overseas, so this information is processed outside New Zealand (see section 5).
You can read how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can turn off personalised ads in your Google account at myadcenter.google.com, or block or delete cookies in your browser.
Google Analytics and your cookie choice
We also use Google Analytics to understand how people use our website, for example which pages they visit and whether they tap a phone number or ask for directions to a store. When you first visit, we ask whether you accept these cookies. Google Analytics and Google’s advertising cookies are only set if you choose Accept. If you choose Reject, Google may still receive basic signals without cookies (for example, that a page was viewed), which it uses to estimate visits. You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.
7. Marketing
We send marketing emails only where you’ve agreed to receive them. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to stop at any time. We follow the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007.
8. Security and How Long We Keep Information
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. We keep information only as long as we need it for the reasons set out in this policy, or as the law requires. For example, we keep financial records for seven years.
9. Privacy Breaches
If a privacy breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the people affected, as the Privacy Act requires.
10. Your Rights
- Access: you can ask us for the personal information we hold about you. We will respond as soon as reasonably practicable, and within 20 working days.
- Correction: you can ask us to correct information that’s wrong. You can also update your contact details by contacting us or your local store.
- Marketing: you can opt out of marketing at any time.
To make a request, contact our Privacy Officer using the details below. We may need to check your identity first.
11. Children
Our website is not aimed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information.
12. Links to Other Websites
Our website may link to other websites. We aren’t responsible for their privacy practices or content, so please read their policies.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The updated policy applies from the date we post it on this page, and the “Last updated” date at the top will change.
14. Complaints
If you have a concern about how we’ve handled your information, please contact us first. We will try to resolve it quickly and fairly. If you’re not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at www.privacy.org.nz or on 0800 803 909.
